Repairing instead of throwing away
Many products are thrown away prematurely because a repair is not worthwhile, a spare part is not available and a new product is soooo cheap. Some products are even produced for a short period of time (“planned obsolescence”). This is the theme of the film “Buying for the garbage dump” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypEODEfkJxI) and the website www.murks-nein-danke.de, for example.
As a counter-movement there are so-called “repair cafes” in many cities and recently also in Donaueschingen. Volunteer repairers support citizens in getting their defective devices back on track. About the Donaueschinger repair cafe, which takes place monthly on a Saturday in the secondary school, informs the environmental group south baar on its side www.umwelt-baar.de/reparaturcafe/. There you can also inform yourself about the upcoming dates.
